What the PR firm working for Wal-Mart neglected to mention in his sustainablity plug was that although they say "that we would stop buying cypress mulch – bagged or forested in Louisiana –" they still do because there is no third party verification of where the cypress mulch is being harvested, and so it is still being logged and bagged in LA. Also, this is not a suistainable solution, because even if they no longer logged cypress mulch in LA, it just increases the pressure on the rest of the gulf coast states, where cypress mulch logging is just as unsustainable.

For more information on this issue there is a great site www.saveourcypress.org that is working to pressure Wal-Mart, Lowe's and Home Depot to stop selling this mulch altogether.
